    Context

    Equipped with an aging fleet of contamination control instruments, EDF (the french electricity provider) wanted to replace its old monitors with new equipment, more efficient and enabling an easier control. The ALARA principle («As Low As Reasonably Achievable») is one of the basic principles of nuclear workers’ protection against ionizing radiation. It consists in implementing the most effective protective actions, to ensure that the personnel’s exposure to radioactivity is «as low as reasonably achievable», whatever the level of exposure. Developed by Bertin, the new SaphyRAD contamination monitor provides a simpler and more effective alpha & beta radioactive contamination control compared to older contamination meters, while being more robust. The ergonomic interface of the SaphyRAD was built to enable its use by non specialized personnel while keeping multiple functionalities and a high level of information.
