The Flamanville EPR (European Pressurised Reactor) is the first site in France to install a new generation of nuclear reactors. This is in line with plans to upgrade EDF’s French nuclear facilities.
This new reactor incorporates recent advances in environmental protection, technical and economic efficiency and above all safety. It makes more efficient use of the fuel and reduces radioactive discharges by 30%.
Employee safety is of prime importance in this reactor. Environmental protection combined with regard for the health and safety of company personnel contribute towards efficient and safe reactor operation.
Consequently the plant requires radiation protection equipment that will be used by personnel when the reactor starts operating at the end of 2018. Having already experimented their equipment in existing plants, EDF showed full confidence in once again calling on the expertise of Bertin Technologies for its new reactor.

Installation of the C3 portal monitors in the Flamanville site
Fixed and mobile environmental monitoring equipment along with radiation detectors, contamination monitoring and dosimetry equipment have been supplied to the personnel of the Flamanville EPR, providing a comprehensive monitoring and protection system for the entire site:
Air monitoring beacons & radioactivity detection probes (GammaTRACER) to monitor the environment.
Mobile radioactivity detection probes for emergency response, reducing exposure for first responders (GammaTRACER Spider).
Radiation portal monitors for personnel and vehicle loading (C3), installed at the site’s exits.
Dosimeters (Saphydose Gamma) and contamination monitoring equipment (SaphyRAD E) for workers exposed to radiation.
