    Chlorophyll a extraction from Chlorella Vulgaris

    Context

    This laboratory is working on the development of an efficient maintenance strategy for stream ecosystems. This study focuses on the extraction of Chlorophyll a from Chlorella vulgarisand compares two different homogenization methods : the Precellys® bead-beater and a hand-held, Con-Torque Tissue Homogenizer.

    Results

    The  total  yield  of  Chlorophyll  a  extracted  is  higher  with Precellys compared to the manual grinding method (Fig. 1).

    Precellys ®  24-Dual  :  11,500  µg/L  (average  of  triplicate values)

    Hand  grind  method  :  7,000  µg/L  (average  of  triplicate values)
